Relax. It’s something that seems to be a lot easier said than done, but it’s important to teach yourself how to relax because it’s good for you and you deserve it. Learning to properly relax takes a lot less time than you might think- you don’t need a spa day or a weekend-long vacation. Burbank Open MRI shares these 4 stress-relieving tips that each take less than 15 minutes.
Meditation is one of the oldest forms of relaxation that helps ease stress and anxiety. Robbie Maller Hartman, PhD, a psychologist says, “Research suggests that daily meditation may alter the brain’s neural pathways, making you more resilient to stress.”
How to meditate: Sit up straight with two feet resting on the floor, close your eyes and focus all your attention on reciting a positive phrase. Breath in and out deeply while you do this to keep your mind occupied and off the stresses of the day.
One of the easiest ways to de-stress is to give your mind a task. When we are stressed our minds are often racing and unable to focus. Consciously tell yourself “Ok it’s time to breath in. Now it’s time to breathe out.” Feel the stress disappear with each breath.
Help your body wind down by wrapping a warm heating pad around your neck and shoulders. Put your cell phone down, close your eyes and relax your face, neck, chest and back muscles. Feel the warmth from the heating bad flow throughout your body and let the stress melt away.
Studies have shown that soothing music can lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Hop on your iPhone and make a playlist full of soothing songs and nature sounds. Let your mind concentrate on the different melodies, the more you focus on the music the lest you will be over thinking your stressors and anxieties.
